Rimmel Skin Type Test

Goldenberry Group, representing Rimmel, sought a solution to help sales staff diagnose consumers’ skin types and recommend the best product from their foundation and powder range. The objective was to provide an interactive, face-friendly tool that worked by reacting to the sebum on the skin. The tool needed to categorize skin types into three levels—dry, normal, and oily—offering a personalized product recommendation that ensured consumers chose the product best suited to their skin.

This initiative aimed to not only enhance the consumer shopping experience but also boost confidence in Rimmel’s product offerings, driving sales and customer satisfaction.

USP’s Contribution
USP Solutions developed a two-step Skin Type Test Tool embedded within a 4-page leaflet. This innovative solution allowed consumers to assess their skin type through testers designed to measure sebum levels on the cheek and forehead, providing a clear path to the right product choice based on their results.

How It Worked

  1. Sebum Level Measurement:
    • The leaflet included two integrated test strips designed to measure the sebum on the cheek and forehead.
    • Consumers applied the strips to their skin, which visibly reacted based on the level of sebum detected.
  2. Result Analysis:
    • The sebum levels were compared against a results chart printed within the leaflet, categorizing skin into dry, normal, or oily.
  3. Product Recommendation:
    • Based on their skin type, the leaflet guided consumers to the most suitable Rimmel foundation or powder, ensuring a perfect match for their skin needs.
  4. Engaging POS Experience:
    • Sales staff used the tool as a conversation starter to engage consumers, educate them about their skin, and confidently recommend products.

Impact
The Skin Type Test Tool became a key component of Rimmel’s POS strategy in Poland, enhancing consumer engagement and streamlining the product selection process. By offering a personalized experience, the tool strengthened Rimmel’s reputation as a trusted cosmetics brand and increased sales across its foundation and powder lines.
