Post-Covid-19 lockdown, more people began spending increased time outdoors, which, as noted by ÖGK Klagenfurt, led to a heightened risk of sunburn due to greater exposure to UV radiation. Recognizing this trend, the ÖGK team aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of ultraviolet (UV) radiation and encourage the use of sun protection.
The goal was to provide an educational, portable, and reusable tool that could help individuals monitor UV intensity levels while outdoors. This tool would empower consumers to make informed decisions about their sun care needs, ensuring better protection against harmful solar radiation.
USP’s Contribution
USP Solutions developed a UV Intensity Test Card, designed for ease of use and portability. The card used advanced technology to visually indicate UV intensity levels, helping individuals understand the risks of prolonged sun exposure in real-time.
How It Worked
- Real-Time UV Measurement:
- The UV Test Card changed color when exposed to sunlight, with the intensity of the color indicating the level of UV radiation.
- Portable and Reusable:
- The compact design allowed consumers to carry the card in their wallets, ensuring it was always accessible.
- The reversible UV indicator enabled multiple uses, making it a sustainable and long-lasting solution.
- Sun Care Guidance:
- The card included information about UV intensity levels and recommended sun care actions for each level, guiding consumers to purchase and use appropriate sun protection products.
Impact
The UV Intensity Test Card became a cornerstone of ÖGK’s sun safety campaign in Austria. By equipping consumers with a practical and educational tool, ÖGK successfully increased awareness about UV radiation and encouraged the adoption of sun care routines. The initiative not only promoted public health but also strengthened ÖGK’s reputation as a leader in consumer health education.
